A brilliant contemporary drama set in urban Slovenia, with an amazing fresh cast of European Shooting Stars, an outstanding director of photography, highly focused editing, directed by Marko Šantić, produced by Danijel Hočevar and supported by his Croatian and Serbian friends as well as the European funding agency Eurimages.
In this intelligent mix of Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation” and Christopher Nolan’s “Memento”, the protagonist Rok loses his memory and is seemingly turning into a better man. Or will his ultra-radical past take over his personality again?
As a lot of harm and blood has been and will be spilled on and by him, will Rok be the “Last Man Standing” like Bruce Willis in Walter Hill’s 1996 hit or Daniel Day-Lewis in “There Will Be No Blood” (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2007).
This genuine European co-production led by Daniel Hočevar – whose “Spare Parts” was the Slovenian competition entry at Berlinale 2003 – was just an obvious picture for me to pick. A lost soul in a messed-up world. An amazing cinematic experience which proves the power of images.
